The Story Behind Tukoza Essence Car Perfumes

Sometimes it only takes a small thing to change everything.

Sometimes it doesn’t take a big event to change the way you see things. Sometimes a small, seemingly ordinary experience is enough to make you stop and reflect.

For many years, I didn’t use any car air fresheners at all.

The reason is simple: a car air freshener bought at a supermarket caused damage to our car. Seeing the car ruined by something that was only meant to add fragrance made me completely lose trust in that kind of product.

From that moment on, I stopped buying car air fresheners. For years, I didn’t use a single one.

From Refusal to Question: My Journey to Creating Tukoza Car Perfumes

Over time, however, that experience didn’t remain just a bad memory. It became a question that kept growing clearer in my mind:

Could it be that there wasn’t a car air freshener that was safer, gentler, and truly designed for such a small space?

A car is a closed environment. We breathe in these scents every day, often for hours. Yet, on the market, I only found products that were too strong, standardized, and not reassuring at all.

When the idea of creating my own brand came to me, I had one absolute certainty:

👉 I wanted to create a product that I would personally use first.

  • A product that would never make me doubt.

  • A product that wouldn’t damage the car.

  • A product that would genuinely smell nice, without ever being overwhelming.

And that’s how Tukoza Essence – Car Perfumes – was born.

Behind Every Bottle Is My Hand

One thing has always been clear to me: creating a car air freshener isn’t just about mixing a base and a fragrance “at random.” Every Tukoza Essence Car Perfume is handmade by me, from start to finish.

That’s why I purchase all the ingredients separately: bottles ,the diffuser base, fragrance oils, and other main materials, on the other hand, I source in the UK from reliable suppliers.

This allows me to have:

  • complete control over quality

  • continuity in supply

  • full confidence in the materials I use

It may seem like a small detail, but it isn’t.

Some caps, for example, can be defective: they might not screw on properly or close as they should. Those are discarded without hesitation. If a bottle isn’t perfect, it never reaches the market.

IFRA Standards: Why You Can’t Just “Do Whatever You Want

When creating a car air freshener, you can’t simply pour oil and base together however you like.

There are IFRA standards—international guidelines that set the maximum concentration of fragrance oils allowed in a product, depending on the context.

Following these standards is essential. .Ignoring them would mean creating something that is neither safe nor responsible.

For me, adhering to IFRA standards is not just a box to tick; it’s an essential part of the process. It’s one of the reasons why every blend is carefully planned, measured, and crafted with attention.

What DEP Is and Why I Choose to Avoid It

DEP, or Diethyl Phthalate, is a chemical often used in fragrances to fix the scent, helping it last longer. It is commonly found in many industrial fragrance oils, including those used for car air fresheners.

Legally, DEP can be used within certain limits, and it is considered safe as long as these standards are followed. But personally, I have chosen not to use it in my Car Perfumes.

Why?

  • A car is a closed space, where we breathe in the fragrance every day, often for hours.

  • I prefer to offer a gentler, more natural product that can be enjoyed without worry.

  • I want to have complete control over the ingredients, selecting DEP-free fragrance oils from reliable UK suppliers.

It’s a personal choice, made with care and responsibility, because I believe a car fragrance should be a pleasure, not a concern. I prefer to know that the fragrance entering your car—and mine—has been designed to be gentler, more balanced, and perfectly suited to such an intimate space.

For me, a car air freshener shouldn’t just “smell good.” It should make you feel calm, comfortable, and confident, without worrying about inhaling something you’re not fully comfortable with.

Creating the Blend

I personally create each blend using:

  • a high-quality diffuser base sourced in the UK

  • premium fragrance oils sourced in the UK

I don’t buy ready-made fragrances to simply bottle them.

I craft the blend myself, with care and respect for the final product.

Once ready, the blend is left to rest for at least 24 hours in bottles, allowing the base and fragrance to fully combine. This step is essential and is often skipped in industrial production.

Only after this resting period do I proceed to fill the bottles.

Manual Quality Control, One by One

Every bottle passes through my hands.

If something doesn’t meet my standards, it’s discarded. Nothing reaches the market without being carefully inspected.

If a cap doesn’t screw on perfectly, it is immediately replaced.

Nothing leaves without having passed through my hands.

Fragrances Personally Selected and Tested

Each fragrance is tested by me.

If a scent doesn’t inspire me, I discard it—even if someone else might like it.

Everything that carries the name Tukoza Essence must truly represent me.

The Three Reeds: Freedom and Personality

I decided to use three reeds to give users freedom in how they experience the fragrance:

  • two rattan reeds

  • one fiber reed with a small decorative rose

The fiber reed releases the scent more immediately and intensely. That’s why I recommend not leaving it always immersed, so the fragrance lasts longer.

This choice is personal—it represents me and adds an elegant touch to a handmade product.

I’ve put together a short video showing exactly how I use the reeds to make the fragrance last longer—watch and try it in your own car!

More Than Just a Car Air Freshener

This is the story of how Tukoza Car Perfumes was born, and how every part of the process is crafted with care, just as I would want it for my own car.

If you’re looking for a fragrance for your car that isn’t “the usual,” maybe you’re in the right place.

It’s the kind of product I would have wanted to find myself years ago—the one that makes you think, without even realizing it: This is exactly what I was looking for.”
